Update 20th September 2021
After a disrupted year again, many of us are ready and waiting to get back into the mountains. It is not sensible to plan trips for the upcoming October holidays only to have them cancelled because we are at Level 2 or higher.
But....
BRONZE: training can go ahead at level 2 and trips can go ahead at level 1 before the December break over weekends. More information will be sent once we get to Level 1.
SILVER & GOLD TRAINING: We can do the training weekends in Level 2 and plan our trips for level 1 during the December break after NCEA exams.
We have a waiting list available at all levels so if you wish to join that list, please email us.
From the BUSHWORKS team.
Update 20th January 2021
After a disrupted year in 2020, it was great to get out into Mountains over Summer. It was fun to walk Harper Pass (part of the Te Araroa trail), the "new" Paparoa track, visiting the new Casey hut and traversing part of the Savannah Range from Woolshed Hill. Here's hoping that we maintain our safe status quo in 2021 and can keep exploring the wilderness.
Check out the dates on our calendar / Facebook / Instagram for the upcoming training and trips.
Opportunities to sign up will be emailed in February.
Update 30th July 2020
BUSHWORKS is delighted to announce the resumption of training and trips for the Spring & Summer Season.
We look forward to seeing you all tramping in the mountains.
Check out the dates on our calendar for the upcoming training and trips.
Update 20th May 2020
BUSHWORKS has made the decision to postpone trips until after winter 2020.
Despite an extremely robust trip plan and extensive planning by some very experienced people that we felt met the requirements of the published document "EOTC and Outdoor Education at Alert Level 2" we understand that the perception of running any trip at this time may send the wrong message.
While we are convinced that our plans would have meant that all personnel would probably be as safe as visiting the local supermarket or shopping mall. The difference between a school trip and a BUSHWORKS trip is the mixing of school groups. There is a chance, however small, that Covid-19 can still be transmitted in the public arena so that is why we need to make the decision to reduce the risk of exposure to all people involved by postponing the trips until after winter.
Update 15th May 2020
At last, the time has come to get into the mountains and stretch your legs. The modified Adventurous Journey criteria mean we can go tramping again. Please check your emails to see what is on offer and fill in the application form. I look forward to seeing your responses.
If you are new to BUSHWORKS.NZ then there will be opportunities to complete training and trips after the winter season.
Now that NZQA has moved the NCEA examinations, this may mean that the school holidays offer different opportunities to the normal setup of September / October. We may look to having trips in December / January if required.
Whatever happens, the mountains remain and we will be there!
Update 23rd March 2020
Our Government move to Level 4 precautions for COVID19 have just been imposed.
Therefore al proposed trips are on hold for four weeks after which time their feasibility will be reevaluated and trips will be rescheduled. This may be at short notice so please watch for emails from us.
Bronzies; please keep the loan gear that you have been issued in a safe place until further notice.
The good news for most of you is that we did get the classroom training completed.
We wish you good health. Stay safe and well.
